University of Washington Certificate Programs Designed for Career Changers
Responding to realities of the job market in Washington State, UW Professional and Continuing Education has identified a number of its certificate programs that are particularly suited for career changers. Many of these programs are geared to fields that are expanding or newly emerging, including those expected to benefit from President Obama's stimulus plan (healthcare, environment/sustainability, infrastructure-related).
These UW certificate programs:
- Require minimal or no prior professional experience in the field to apply
- Scheduled evening, weekend, or online to allow professionals to keep working while preparing for a new career
- Packaged to complete in 6-9 months, enabling quick transition to a new field
- Many qualify for Washington WorkSource's Career Bridge program (including extension of unemployment benefits while in school); see www.careerbridge.wa.gov/
- Provide opportunities to network with fellow students and with instructors and guest speakers, many of whom are top professionals in their field
